Sandy Klapper Artist - Biography |
![]() |
Sandy Klapper is well-known as a Jewish folk artist. She depicts in her paintings the traditions and symbols of all aspects of Judaism. Much of her subject matter centers around the Chasidim. She has tried to capture the spirited ways of their dancing, their dress, and the intensity with which they pray and observe the Sabbath and holidays. She has devised an unusual and original style of painting for her current work. The medium used is acrylic applied very thick which gives the illusion of the painting being three-dimensional. The use of gemstones, strategically placed in the pictures, give added sparkle and color. Sandy is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art. She was editor and illustrator for three years of a monthly community newspaper, “The King’s Messenger.” She also illustrated many publications for the Maryland State Department of Education. Her work has been very favorably received by the public, and her paintings hang in numerous Collections throughout the United States, Canada, Japan, England, France and Israel. The artist lives in Baltimore, Maryland with her husband, Harold. She has a son, a married daughter and two grandchildren. |
